receiver, also official receiver : a person appointed by the court to hold in trust and administer property in litigation; esp : one appointed to administer, conserve, rehabilitate, or liquidate the assets of an insolvent corporation for the protection or relief of creditors (Assignee – Assignees in bankruptcy were those in whom the property of a bankrupt became vested for the benefit of the creditors. They have now been replaced, under the Bankruptcy Act, 1914, by official receivers and trustees in bankruptcy. – JBS
